Press Release
For Immediate Release
March 24, 2010
In lights of concerns and requests for comments about the coming of Ann Coulter to give a speech at the University of Calgary, the MSA declares the following press release.
The Muslim Students' Association at the University of Calgary does not consider Ann Coulter to be someone who speaks on an intellectual level that warrants consideration. Coulter is simply attempting to gain publicity for her Canadian speaking tour by employing an old tactic that involves inflammatory speech aimed at a religion or an ethnicity. We do not find what she says to be anything but hate mongering and therefore not worthy of a dignified response.
We believe in freedom of speech, but we also believe in respecting other religions, races, and ethnicities. We believe mutual respect and peaceful co-existence takes precedence over an assumed "right" to insult others.
We are not officially organizing nor participating in any protests regarding her visit, however, our members are free to protest if they so choose. |
