What is Islamic Awareness Week?

Islamic Awareness Week (IAW for short) is the biggest and most resource intensive annual event held by the MSA. It is a week dedicated to calling people to Islam and teaching the principles and fundamentals of the religion. A step in fulfilling the ever going obligation of Dawah upon us.

The theme for Islamic Awareness Week this year is "Jesus is a Muslim," which is relevant to people of all faiths and beliefs as Jesus is a respected religious and cultural figure to them.

How Does It Work?

We book the North Courtyard in the MacEwan Student Center and various other places, give one-on-one Dawah, hand-out Dawah material, and hold lectures and discussions about Islam.

When Is It?

Islamic Awareness Week starts 15th of March and ends on, Friday 19th of March.

How Can I Help?

You can help in Islamic Awareness Week in three ways:

  1. Volunteer in giving one-on-one Dawah The MSA will hold a course in-which you learn basic principles that would help you in your Dawah. The course, along with the volunteers' kit, costs $10 and will be held on the Saturday & Sunday, 6th & 7th of March, 2010. The course is the prerequisite for giving one-on-one Dawah in Islamic Awareness Week. The course will be given, Inshallah, by the renowned Sheikh Kamal El-Mekki, who is known for his work in the Dawah areas.
  2. Volunteer in logistics Islamic Awareness Week requires lots of hard work other than direct Dawah. It requires putting-up posters, setting up in mornings, packing up in evenings, helping up in events, and other tasks.
  3. Donate Islamic Awareness Week depends on Allah and then on people’s contributions. Your money is what powers Islamic Awareness Week and lets the MSA book halls, buy literature and pamphlets, buy Qurans, bring speakers, and so on. Do not forget the countless benefits of donating from what Allah has given you as known from the Quran and the Sunnah.

Now What?

If you are interested in volunteering, then please visit the sign-up form to apply. You will be informed by email on how to proceed from there.

If you are interested in donating for Islamic Awareness Week, you can do so by dropping money in-person at the weekly Friday Prayers, at the MSA office during the office hours, or by donating online using PayPal or Credit Card.
